Dunkin’ Donuts Controversy

May 29th, 2008

Rachael Ray in Dunkin\' Donuts AdWho knew that a Dunkin Donuts ad featuring Rachael Ray wearing a kaffiyeh (a traditional Arab headdress, often seen worn by extremist jihad and Muslim terrorists) around her neck could cause so much attention and controversy?  Whoever the stylist is, poor choice of accessories to put around her neck!  Not only does it look too “busy” with her plain t-shirt and hobo bag, it just draws too much attention to what is adorned around her neck rather than the coffee drink that she is holding and promoting.

Dunkin’ Donuts has stopped running the ad, but it’s already too late..it’s received national (if not worldwide) attention.  I wonder what this will do for their coffee/donut sales?  Leave it to Rachael to f*#k everything up!

The Hills are Alive, Bitches!

March 25th, 2008

hills.jpgThe new season of “The Hills” TV series is back on.  The first episode showed Lauren in Paris.  She was given a beautiful dress by a French designer to wear to a ball where she would be working for a Teen Vogue event.  Bitch ended up leaving her stupid curling iron on by the nylon material, and it left some burn marks.  Can’t she ever do anything right???

And Whitney…how many times in that one episode did she say “I’m so excited!!!”

As annoying as these characters are, and as ”staged” as any reality show can get, I still love it to see the fashion and the dramaz!

Sacrilegious!

Cum Aboard American Airlines

March 20th, 2008

FOXNEWS:  http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,338889,00.html

Harris County, Texas, native Centava Dozier, 21, filed a $200,000 lawsuit Monday against American Airlines, alleging that a passenger masturbated in the seat next to her and then ejaculated on her hair.

Dozier was on her way to visit family and friends in L.A., MyFOXHouston reports.

The suit claims Dozier was sitting in an empty row when the plane took off, and then fell asleep. When she woke up, she says she found a substance in her hair and a man masturbating in the seat next to her.

Dozier claims that when she asked the flight attendants for help, and requested the man be removed and taken back to his assigned seat, the staff did nothing, MyFOXHouston reports.

American Airlines officials maintain that appropriate action was taken and the man was arrested when the plane landed.

If this happened to me, I’d sue for more than $200k.

There is a similar story of a man masturbating at a Target store in one of the aisles, and he came on a customer who was shopping with her daughter.  What is this world coming to??

Go in for leg surgery, get a new anus instead!

March 20th, 2008

From FOXNews:  http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,339270,00.html

A German retiree is taking a hospital to court after she went in for a leg operation and got a new anus instead, the Daily Telegraph is reporting.

The woman woke up to find she had been mixed up with another patient suffering from incontinence who was to have surgery on her sphincter.

The clinic in Hochfranken, Bavaria, has since suspended the surgical team.

Now the woman is planning to sue the hospital. She still needs the leg operation and is searching for another hospital to do it.

The Kite Runner

February 21st, 2008

“The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini is truly a masterpiece.  It is the first and only book that has brought me to tears.  The book is 371 pages, and I finished reading this in 3 days.  I recommend this book to anyone that appreciates great writing.  This book touches on friendship and loyalty, love, hope, despair, life long regrets, and redemption.  This story will resonate with you long after you are done.  I won’t ruin the plot for you, just go get it!

Democratic Presidential Debate

February 21st, 2008

The University of Texas at Austin hosted the Democratic Presidential Debate tonight between Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton.  I first have to say how impressed I am with Hillary Clinton.  I really underestimated her.  I think I’ve been so caught up in the Obama hype and the momentum that he has built that I just kind of forgot about Hillary.  She was able to speak eloquently and make her points firm and clear.  Wow!  She really nailed it and brought the house down, especially her last comment on how she has overcome obstacles in the public eye.  That really struck a chord with people.  For those of you that did not watch tonight, she basically said that though she’s had her personal struggles, she still considers herself very blessed and what she goes through is NOTHING compared to the men and women (and their families) that serve our country and risk their lives for us everyday.  THEY have SERIOUS struggles.  She really identified with the American people with that statement.  She wasn’t just a candidate trying to get a vote, she was a human relating to other humans.

I really am starting to rethink my vote.  I feel she is really a woman of her word, but is that enough?  I guess as a politician, that is like being a saint, but more and more, I have been imagining her as President of the US at roundtable discussions - meeting with foreign heads of states at UN meetings, and I just can’t see it happening.  I’m just being honest.  I just don’t see her blending well with leaders from predominantly Muslim countries, where they do not believe that women have a place in making world decisions, much less doing a ‘man’s job.”

This is not to insinuate that I give a damn what people from the Middle East think…I just can’t picture it going down well.  If she wins, I will be happy for her, and if Barack wins, I will be happy too.  I’m so torn!  I do think Hillary is an extremely strong, compassionate, and empathetic woman that puts her money where her mouth is.  Barack has some evangelical quality about him.  He gets people pumped and excited, he engages the audience, he has a vision for change, but at the end of the day, does that pay the bills?

Barack’s performance tonight was sub-par.  To me, he seemed to just kind of reinterate or paraphrase everything Hillary was saying.  She was so on target with her answers, so fierce!  I understand that he and Senator Clinton share a lot of the same values and political beliefs, and they admit to having substantive differences, but I just felt like Hillary shined more tonight.

Texas is a mostly red state.  I don’t even know if voting will make a difference.  I have a feeling McCain will take TX on the March 3 primary.  We shall wait and see!

Existentialism

February 21st, 2008

Ever heard the cliche “Everything happens for a reason?”  I believe it.  When I’ve gone through a crisis, I don’t necessarily see the meaning or the point to it all at the time being, but in retrospect, I always see why it happened and how I was able to survive it.  Now that I’m 30 yrs old, happily married, with a great job, living in a beautiful home, with great friends and a wonderful family, I’m truly grateful for my past heartaches, disappointments, failures, and broken friendships because it has all taught me valuable life lessons.  It makes me so happy that I left all that shit behind, good riddance!

Experiences, whether good or bad, make you who you are.  We create the meaning and essence of our lives - we are responsible for our own happiness, and we possess control of the choices we make in our lives.

This leads me to my rant: people that are constantly complaining about their relationship(s), money, and job really weigh me down.  I hate hearing it, especially if the problem exists for more than 2 weeks, the problem is YOU!!!!  You are to blame if you subject yourself to the struggles, heartbreak, and misery.  So do something, no one is going to do it for you!
