Here are my current top favs on the tube in this particular order: Californication, Entourage, The Hills, Weeds. I can’t live without Showtime!
Californication is a new series that started. David Duchovny plays Hank. a writer living in LA. He is a male slut that gets some even when he doesn’t try, or maybe it’s the fact that these women are mesmerized by the fact that he is a famous writer, who has produced such novel hits. He usually could care less about his dishoveled appearance, yet his cocky attitude still has the ladies crawling right into his bed. He is still in love with Karen, who is the mother of their child. Becca is his one and only daughter that he adores more than anything. He shows a very soft and loving side towards Becca, and tries to be a stern yet cool dad to her while she goes through her teen angst years. Every episode shows Hank bagging a new lady and punching out some guy. It is so entertaining!
Entourage is the ultimate guys comedy show that follows the life of Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), who is a young, famous and very rich actor living it up in Hollywood. His entourage includes his manager Eric, his half-brother Drama, and friend Turtle. These guys usually only have one thing on their mind, which is part of the female anatomy. This show focuses on the superficiality of today’s lifestyle in general, particularly Hollywood, and the ups and downs of finding success and love in the showbiz world. I almost forgot the best character: Ari, played by Jeremy Pivens. Ari plays Vince’s former agent that is still trying to lure him in as his client. He truly makes the show! This show portrays the cut-throat reality of life in the fast lane. Happiness can be bought, and lives are manipulated.
The Hills: either you love it or hate it! This is the third season of this MTV Reality show that follows the life of a former Laguna Beach star (Lauren Conrad). She is a fashionable young girl in her 20-something’s that now lives in LA, works at Teen Vogue, and goes to fashion school. The show features the circle of friends that she runs with: Heidi (her former BFF who is now engaged to Spencer-who is public enemy #1..though they have major beef and don’t speak anymore, they often run into each other at bars or night clubs and share some mutual friends *awkward!*), Audrina (Lauren’s current roommate and the dumbest brunette I’ve ever seen or heard. Her teeth are bigger than the TV screen itself and she has yet to say anything other than “I don’t know”), Brody (as in Brody Jenner who is famous because his parents are rich. He is a real life male slut, but he knows how to party and doesn’t give a $#!t what anyone thinks). I like the pretenious drama that goes on, such as the 5 minute hookups and the 1 second breakups. I also like to see which clubs they hit and what fashion trends they sport with mommy and daddy’s $.
Weeds is a comical series that spotlights Mary Louise Parker (who plays Nancy Botwin). She is an untraditional mom that lives in a desirable neighborhood of Agrestic. With her husband’s death, she has to make ends meet to support her two growing boys, so she turns to selling weed! The irony is that she is not much of a smoker herself, but the people in her stiff white collared neighborhood need some kind of release, so she provides. It shows her briefly dating a man (Peter) after her husband’s death, just to find out that he is a DEA agent. During this time, Peter falls hard for Nancy. As much as she tries to hide her weed business and end the relationship with Peter, he knew all along who she was and what she was doing. They eventually marry so that she can continue her “business” and he can protect her. Nancy has some f#@*ed up neighbors with disfunctional families and scary drug dealer thugs that bring a lot of spunk to this show. Kevin Nealon (Doug) is Nancy’s financial advisor and neighbor, who is also a city councilman. Doug is probably Nancy’s biggest client. He is always acting inappropriately, sleeping with women in his neighborhood, eating some munchies, and making a fool of himself. It’s not quite wholesome family entertainment, but it’s definitely entertaining.
